For an anniversary, the room is the trip. A private jacuzzi facing a view you will both remember beats any restaurant booking, and the best of them are inside your own suite, never shared.
An anniversary deserves a room you do not want to leave. We spend our days checking that the jacuzzi or hot tub in a listing is genuinely private and genuinely in the room, which is exactly what you want for a night that is meant to feel like just the two of you. This guide covers where in Europe does this best, how to choose between a warm jacuzzi and a cool plunge pool, and a handful of suites we think are worth the occasion.
The most romantic places for an anniversary soak
Santorini is the obvious one, and it earns it: a tub on a caldera terrace with the sun dropping into the sea is hard to top for a milestone. Book high on the rim in Oia or Imerovigli for the full view. The honest catch is that those terraces sit in tiers, so total seclusion is rare; if you want to be unseen, look for the enclosed ones we flag.
For something quieter and just as romantic, the Amalfi Coast trades the crowds for drama. A terrace above Positano or Ravello, the bay far below and the town lighting up at dusk, is a different kind of special. Lake Como brings stillness instead, a lakeside room with the water glassy at dawn, which suits a calmer anniversary.
Closer to a city break, Florence, Rome and Venice all have rooftop tub suites where the soak comes with a skyline. They are a lovely surprise for a partner who thinks they know what a city trip looks like.
Jacuzzi or plunge pool for the night
A jacuzzi is the warm, jetted soak, made for sitting close with a glass of something as the light goes. It works in any season because it is heated, which makes it the safer choice for an anniversary that falls in spring or autumn.
A plunge pool is cooler and deeper, better for floating on a warm evening than for a long soak on a chilly one. It photographs beautifully against a sea view, so if your anniversary is in high summer and the picture matters, it is a fine pick. For most couples marking a date out of peak season, the warm jacuzzi or hot tub is the more reliable romance.
When to go
Shoulder season is your friend. Late May into June, and September into early October, give you warm evenings, long light and softer prices than the July and August peak, with far fewer people in the way of the view. The islands and the coast are at their loveliest then.
If your anniversary is fixed in deep summer, book early and aim higher up the hill for the breeze and the view. If it falls in winter, point yourselves at the Canary Islands, where an outdoor tub is still comfortable when the rest of Europe is not.
