A balcony plunge pool is a small, deep pool built into your own private balcony or terrace, a step up from a hot tub and entirely yours. The appeal is the edge: water meeting a low wall meeting a long view, so it feels like you could float straight out over the sea or the rooftops. It is not a swimming pool. It is for cooling off, floating, and a slow afternoon with the view doing the work.
The thing to watch is the word balcony. A shared rooftop pool is not a balcony pool, however nice the photo. Neither is a ground-floor garden pool shared between rooms. The real thing is private, on your own outdoor space, and used by no one but you. That distinction is exactly what we verify before anything goes on the site, which is why we would rather tell you we do not have one yet than stretch the definition.
Where to look in Europe
Balcony and terrace pools are most common where hotels are stacked up a hillside or a cliff, because the architecture lends itself to small private pools cut into each level. The Amalfi Coast, Santorini and the steeper corners of the Greek islands are the likeliest hunting grounds, followed by the cliff towns of the Cinque Terre and parts of the Dalmatian coast.
